I Ching

Have you ever wished, in times when you were not able to take decision, that there be a friend, who can help you in making decisions. A friend, who has our interest in mind, and knows about the situation more than we do. Someone who will whisper in our ears, that which is just right for us.
Well good news is that we all have such a friend available to us, only we don’t recognize them. They talk to us; they indeed whisper in our ears, we can feel them in our heartbeats, yet we miss them. The clutter of world around keeps us clutched in entangles. In the fight of small, we loose sight of the great.
There are ways, which can help us in communicating better with our “those” friends. And the way is called Divination. Divination means communing with Divine. And who can be our best friend, other than that Divine. By means of divination we can ask our friends the problem we are facing, and the solution they suggest.
There are many methods of divination: Tarot cards, Runes, I Ching to name a few.
Here I will start with I Ching, and if there are readers interested in knowing more will continue to add.

I Ching is the “Book of Life”. Thousands of years ago, Chinese scholars like Confucius, Fu Xi, King Wen, Shao Yong etc contributed to a text consisting of 64 heirographs (symbols), which are supposed to tell about the myriad of things that happen between earth and heaven.
People consult I Ching for guidance in day-to-day life. For using I Ching for divinatory purposes, a hexagram is formed, this hexagram, corresponds to one of the 64 heirographs. The commentary corresponding to the heirograph tells the divinatory meaning of the hexagram. To know more about the history of I Ching you can refer to bibliography at the end of the article.
In order to fully appreciate I Ching, and get guidance from it we need to start from the origin of universe. According to Chinese philosophers, in the starting there was nothing. Then came light and darkness, represented by Chinese symbol tai chi:

The light corresponds to the male energies of universe, while the darkness corresponds to the female energies of the universe. They are also called yang and yin energies respectively. When the two are in balance there is harmony, and when there is excess of any energy there is disharmony.
We humans strive for this balance, this harmony, unconsciously, and so males sought after females and females search for males. In the household where female energy of receptiveness and sensitivity is properly balanced by the male energy of domination and action. There is peace and harmony.
Does this mean a human alone cannot attain peace and harmony? Well I leave you to ponder on this question and its answers…..

What is meditation ?

What is meditation? How is it done? These are the questions perhaps asked by millions across the world, across the time. And just as no one can exactly answer “what is God”, there are many answers to these questions. Meditation can be as simple as playing again as a child, to various complicated methods, given by various Gurus.

Here, I, don’t attempt to answer these questions, to each one there is his/her own answer, but would rather like to share the feeling, almost everyone experiences when starting any type of meditation. For meditating, the first step is normally to be alone with self, and try to be as thoughtless as possible. But just as when we attempt to clear a house, which has not been cleaned for years, there is lot of dust all around. And we get a feeling it was better before. Similarly meditation is clearing the house where our soul resides, and it is a house, which has not been cleaned for lifetimes, rather we go on collecting dirt, as if they are trophies. And thus when we first start meditation, our mind gets full of thoughts, which we never even imagined, existed. It is the dust on the surface, but once it is cleared, we will see the beautiful house, full of peace and happiness. So dear friends don’t be disheartened, thinking that you cannot do meditation, because as you sit in meditation thoughts instead of going, engulf you. It will happen in beginning, but you continue and will reach the temple, you should be.
